Home Improvements in Cheshire – Frequently Asked Questions

I’m looking to save money on my energy bills. How can you help?

One way to create a more energy-efficient home would be replacing your traditional timber doors with composite doors. Wood is a porous material that can let heat out and draughts in, which can be unwelcome in cold Cheshire winters. However, our composite doors combine hardy timber with an inner core of foam insulation, ensuring little to no airflow between your home and the outside. The insulating foam works in conjunction with a plastic skin coating the timber, combining to make composite doors the undeniable first choice for a cosy home.

Comfort doesn’t need to come at the cost of style with composite doors. They are fully customisable with a range of colours and double-glazed glass panes, giving guests an excellent first impression when entering your Cheshire home.

What are your qualifications?

There are many “cowboy” property renovation companies operating in the Cheshire area, but rest assured, D&M Home Improvements is not one of them. We are endorsed by the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme (FENSA), the official body for double-glazing contractors in England and Wales. We are also members of the Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF). We possess over 40 years of combined industry experience in our team, and hold the full insurance required for carrying out home improvement work.

What’s the lifespan of uPVC and how much will it set me back?

Since its advent in the 1960s, uPVC has become the most popular material for window frames on the market, mainly due to its durability and added insulation to your Cheshire home. Most experts agree that uPVC will last around 40 years, whereas traditional window frame materials such as aluminium or timber have shorter lifespans and are higher maintenance. This is due to their tendency to rot, flake, rust and fade. The “u” in uPVC stands for “unplasticised”, meaning it holds the advantage over other plastic competitors because its lack of plasticity means it won’t warp.

Not only is uPVC tough, but also cost-effective. Our Cheshire customers appreciate this when conducting home improvements on a budget. If you are considering adding a conservatory to your home, for example, uPVC conservatories cost an average of £6,700. In comparison, aluminium conservatories cost around 10% more, and timber conservatories, while undoubtedly beautiful, can set you back a whopping £20,000-£60,000.

How can bi folding doors improve the view from my home?

As proud Cestrians, we here at D&M Home Improvements appreciate the spectacular vistas that Cheshire offers. You can look out over your garden and beyond all-year round with our range of bi folding doors. Bi folding doors can give you a view of the surrounding landscape whatever the weather, and their double glazing and uPVC frames mean that a stylish façade at the back of your property won’t come at the cost of comfort or energy efficiency.

The benefits of bi folding doors come into their own in the summer months, as they can be split and stacked up against the framing walls in a concertina effect. This can bring indoors and outdoors together as one space, perfect for summer parties and gatherings. Design experts and top architects often use bi folding doors in their projects, and Cheshire residents can bring a bit of Alderley Edge glamour into their humble abode.

uPVC windows and composite doors are just a couple of the many home improvement solutions D&M can offer Cheshire homeowners. Call us on 07932 015 029.
